Information about Saint Kitts and Nevis

![]() |
Country
Saint Kitts and Nevis
The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis (also known as the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis), located in the Leeward Islands, is a federal two-island nation in the West Indies. It is the smallest sovereign nation in the Americas, in both area and population.
The capital city and headquarters of government for the federated state is Basseterre on the larger island of Saint Kitts. The smaller state of Nevis lies about 2 miles (3 km) sout...heast of Saint Kitts, across a shallow channel called "The Narrows". Historically, the British dependency of Anguilla was also a part of this union, which was then known collectively as Saint Christopher-Nevis-Anguilla. Saint Kitts and Nevis are geographically part of the Leeward Islands. To the north-northwest lie the islands of Saint Eustatius, Saba, Saint Barthélemy, and Saint-Martin/Sint Maarten. To the east and northeast are Antigua and Barbuda, and to the southeast is the small uninhabited island of Redonda, and the island of Montserrat, which currently has an active volcano. Saint Kitts and Nevis were amongst the first islands in the Caribbean to be settled by Europeans. Saint Kitts was home to the first British and French colonies in the Caribbean. |

Biggest cities
Monkey Hill
Monkey Hill is a town in the southeast of the island of Saint Kitts, in Saint Kitts and Nevis. It is the capital of Saint Peter Basseterre Parish. The geographical feature for which the village was named, and beneath which it rests, Monkey Hill, despite its name is over 1000 ft. high and is thus in true geographical sense a mountain.
Cayon
Cayon is a town in Saint Kitts and Nevis close to the north-east coast. It is the capital of Saint Mary Cayon Parish. It is home to the Green Valley Festival.
Dieppe Bay
Dieppe Bay Town is a town in Saint John Capesterre Parish, Saint Kitts and Nevis. It is the oldest town ever founded by Europeans in the Eastern Caribbean, first being established in 1538. The original town only survived a few weeks before its destruction by the Spanish, but was re-founded in 1625, by French settlers led by Pierre D'Esnambuc. It is the co-capital of the parish along with Saddlers; originally the northern part of the parish was ruled by France, in the region of Capisterre de St. Chritstophe, in which Dieppe was the capital. The southern part of the parish was ruled by the United Kingdom, in British Saint Christopher, which had its parish capital in Saddlers. When Britain took full control of the island in 1713, both capitals remained.
Sandy Point
Sandy Point is the second largest town of St. Kitts. It is situated on the north-west coast of St.Kitts and is the capital of Saint Anne Sandy Point Parish.
It is strongly believed that the area known as Sandy Point was the original landing point for English coloner of St. Kitts, Sir Thomas Warner, in 1623. After being founded in the 1620s, It became the commercial centre of St.Kitts and one of the busiest ports in the region, as evidenced by the remains of the many former Dutch warehouses lining the shoreline, which once totalled over 300. After 1727, when the bulk of commercial activity was moved to Basseterre, the town and its port slowly slid further from the forefront. Its port was closed entirely following Hurricane Klaus in 1984. Sandy Point has a population of 3000.
